Fado in Chiado

Hi all,

After some months far away from my city it was time to return and enjoy some of the culture that I miss during so much time! It was time to return and see and listen something that I miss, something that shake your heart, make you have some chicken skin.

I decide to go to Fado in Chiado and see what Portugal really have to offer, what we do better, what we are, our identity, our roots. At the time I thought that will going to be a little boring, not because I think it is but because normally I’m use to see this when I’m eating, this was for me the concept of seeing Fado on live and more than this fell it.

I could say that I was surprise about it: the place, singers, environment, performance, audio, scenario, everything!

The show is done in more or less 1h, which are the right time to persons that never listen this and at the same time the perfect time to remember. It was interesting, it was refreshing, it was fell at home.

Big part of the room was fill with non-Portuguese people (I really think that I was the only one). I think that this happens not because we don’t like it but basically because we don’t take the advantage of what we produce and also because Portuguese people think that is a tourist trap.

I really enjoy the all of the minutes that I was there. I recommend everyone Portuguese or not to go there and enjoy as much as I enjoy. Its amazing what you could fell, especially for me that born in this country.

From now that’s all. Hope to right more as soon as I have the time to do it, because be away of the country let me experience even more Portugal and all that this country have.

Skansen Zoo @Stockholm

Good morning everyone,

This is the first time im going talk about a place outside Portugal and i choose one of the cities that i liked most. This city is Stockholm in Sweden. This is amazing, organize, clean and beautiful. They have a wonderful network transport and its was the best trip when you compare time/money/knowledge. I was there only 3 days, in December 2010, and with help of ERASMUS friends could be possible to saw the best of this city.

Today im going talk about Skansen Zoo, not because its the best thing to see in city, but its my first zoo outside my country and is a big surprise.

Skansen its the first world outdoor museum and at the same time, a zoo, with an area of 300 000m² and locate in Djurgården Island.

On Sunday, 11th of October 1891 Skansen was opened to the public by a  man called Artur Hazelius and the objective its to share and group 150 constructions from all Sweden. This constructions was assembled and disassembled, piece for piece, give a global vision for life in Sweden, from poor farming villages to nobility rich homes.

Like most of countries in Europe, Sweden suffered profound changes in the XIX Century, passing of their rural way of life to an industrialized society. Skansen its one way to get all information of this period in one location.

Most of employees are old persons and try to represent and pass a real image about houses, schools and farms that exists. Its amazing all efforts given by all. Skansen its clean, organize and when i visit their exists a christmas market with typical food and some clothes. The best?Price.. 6€ and you have total access. This city had the most incredible prices when you are talk about culture.

Bom dia,

Desta vez e para me estrear em falar de um local fora de Portugal escolhi uma das cidades que mais gostei de visitar! Estamos a falar de Estocolmo, na Suécia. É fantástica a cidade, organizada, limpa, lindíssima, têm uma rede de transportes fenomenal e foi das viagens mais proveitosas em termos de tempo/conhecimento. Estive lá apenas 3 dias, em Dezembro de 2010, mas com a ajuda de amigos que estavam a fazer ERASMUS, foi-nos possível conhecer o melhor que a cidade têm para oferecer.

Hoje venho falar do Skansen Zoo, não porque tenha sido a melhor coisa que vi em Estocolmo, mas porque nunca tinha visitado um zoo fora de Portugal e este foi sem dúvida uma surpresa.

O Skansen para além de ser o primeiro museu do mundo ao ar livre é, também um jardim zoológio, tem uma área de 300 000 m² e situa-se na Ilha de Djurgården.

Foi fundado em 1891 por um senhor chamado Artur Hazelius que tinha como objectivo tentar partilhar  e agrupar cerca de 150 construções procedentes de toda a Suécia, desmontadas e voltadas a montar, peça a peça, no seu lugar definitivo, dando uma visão global sobre a vida na Suécia, desde as pobres aldeias agrícolas até às ricas residências da nobreza.

Como na maioria dos países da europa, a Suécia sofreu profundas mudanças no Século XIX, passando do seu modo de vida rural para uma sociedade industrializada e, com vista a que toda essa informação não fosse perdida e agrupa num único local.

Muitos dos empregados são claramente séniores que estão a tentar passar uma imagem real da vida nas casas, escolas, quintas que existiam na altura. É de louvar o trabalho e esforço prestado por todos. O parque é organizado, limpo, na altura em que o visitei existia uma feira de Natal fantástica! E o preço de entrada? 6€. É o acesso fácil a cultura e divertimento que não se assiste em outros países da Europa!

Praia Cabanas Velhas

Good morning everyone,

I know its October, but summer continues. If you are in Algarve go to one of my favorite beaches in Lagos and maybe from Algarve .

Im talking about beach Cabanas Velhas or Barranção or Almadéna. This is a naturist beach, but access to this beach is best now and naturist is going to other beaches.

Why this beach is special for me? Isn’t a children beach or for people loves take your entire day in water , because you have a lot of stones and you can get hurt. This is a different beach, they have amazing cliffs (you need to take some care), you have a lot of stones  (its give fantastic effects) and sunset its the best thing you can take for this place!

First time i came to this place was at 2008 and believing or not all route is made of sand. This year everything change and its only 100m, nothing compare what exists before. With flood tide beach is very small and more awesome!

This beach have a big and cool restaurant and a lifeguard. Its have a calm waters, who wants to swimming its a good place.

Bom dia,

Apesar de estarmos já em Outubro parece que o Verão ainda está para durar. Se estiver pelo Algarve dê um salto a umas das mais bonitas praias da zona de Lagos e talvez até do próprio Algarve.

Estou a falar da Praia das Cabanas Velhas, também conhecida como praia do Barranção ou Almadéna. Esta é considerada uma praia de naturistas, mas o recente melhoramento nos acessos fez com que cada vez sejam menos os que o praticam.

Mas o que têm esta praia de especial? Não é uma praia para crianças nem para quem adora passar o dia na água, pois a quantidade de seixos que tem podem provocar acidentes graves. É uma praia diferente, tem umas arribas fantásticas (alguns cuidados com as mesmas, pois apresentam-se muitas delas em risco de queda), tem imensos seixos na areia (tem um efeito fantástico) e é onde o pôr-do-sol é mágico!

A primeira vez que fui a essa praia foi em 2008 e acreditem o caminho do Burgau até á praia era todo em areia. Este ano voltei ao local e agora são apenas 100 metros, nada comparado com o que antes existia. Com maré cheia a praia é bastante pequena o que a torna ainda mais fantástica.

Possuí também um estacionamento bastante grande e fácil acesso á praia, assim como um restaurante, nadador-salvador e é uma praia de águas calmas, o que para quem pretende nadar é excelente.

Praia Fluvial da Aldeia do Mato

Good night everyone,

Today im going talk about another spot of this summer, in central zone and near of the last post (Penedo Furado). Its a fluvialbeach at Aldeia de Mato, with an area off 31,40 km² and 560 persons in 2001.

This fluvial beach its insert into an albufeira of Castelo de Bode dam, in addition is  requested for nautical activities. At the last two year, this fluvial beach are distinct by Quercus with “Gold Quality Water” medal, basically you can drink water from fluvial beach, its safe. You also have a Blue Flag that represents a safe beach. This is one of two fluvial beaches in all country that have this type of recognize. This local are explore by an entity call Segredos da Aldeia, and they have a cafe, modern bungalows, boats, kayaks or simple use platform to dive.

The local is amazing, platform is nice, surrounding its different and healthy. Its cool to go with your family and take a great relaxing time.

Olá a todos,

Hoje é dia de falar de mais um dos locais deste verão, mais uma vez na zona centro e perto do local do post anterior (Penedo Furado), apesar de um pertencer ao Concelho de Castelo Branco e outro ao Concelho de Abrantes. Hoje vou falar da praia fluvial da Aldeia de Mato. Antes de mais vamos localizar-nos, Aldeia de Mato é uma freguesia do Concelho de Abrantes, com 31,40 km² de área e cerca de 560 habitantes e é a menos populosa de todo o Concelho (2001).

Esta praia fluvial está inserida na albufeira da Barragem do Castelo de Bode, e para além de muito procurada para a prática de actividades náuticas e de recreio, foi nos últimos dois anos distinguida pela Quercus com “Qualidade de Ouro”, sendo o principal factor a qualidade da água, pode-se beber (fantástico!).Foi-lhe também atribuída a Bandeira Azul, sendo uma das poucas praias fluviais que obtem este tipo de classificação no país. A beleza paisagística, aliada às infra-estruturas de apoio proporcionam agradáveis momentos de lazer.

Este local é explorado por uma entidade denominada Segredos da Aldeia, que para além de um café, detêm uma espécie de bungalows bastante modernos, onde as pessoas podem aproveitar para pernoitar. A estas infra-estruturas alia-se ainda a possibilidade de alugar barcos, canoas e kayaks ou simplesmente a utilização da plataforma para uns belos mergulhos. Na minha opinião as únicas melhorias necessárias seria a limpeza regular da plataforma, ou a proibição de fumar e comer nessa mesma plataforma, pois nas calhas da mesma nota-se que existe algum lixo acumulado, para além disso, seria ainda necessária a criação de um acesso mais simples à plataforma, pois apesar de terem sido colocadas areias e alisado o caminho, essa resolução não foi suficiente.

Em suma, o local é fantástico, a plataforma é agradável, o espaço envolvente é diferente e saudável, têm tudo para poder passar um óptimo dia com a família ou amigos.

Penedo Furado

Hi everyone,

Today im going share with you the best place to go on this summer and its call Penedo Furado. When i was young, i remember to went to this place with my parents, because my father was live in Abrantes and we had a house here. Today i decide to go there and its a wonderful surprise.

Penedo Furado its a an fluvial Portuguese Cascade and are locate in “aldeia de Milreu”, “Vila de Rei”, geographic area of Castelo Branco. Leaving at EN2 and  follow “aldeia de Milreu”, you will found boards with “Penedo Furado”. This cascade its a river plan area and finish in a river forming an natural pool with some intermediate cascades and viewpoints. This local have wonderful conditions to practice outdoor activities or just for relaxing.

Isn’t simple to find information about this local and this is the reason why this place is so natural and amazing. You need to go there, but you need to preserve. There are some pictures i took:

There exists a company explore and organize pedestrian tours, rappel, and natural climbing (check this link Alfa Aventura). Also exists some infrastructure like a cafe, picnic tables, grills, showers and wc. Its also possible do wild camping.

After some research i found a movie realize by students of Degree in Video and Documentary Cinema, from Escola Superior de Tecnologia de Abrantes (ESTA) , belonging to Instituto Politécnico de Tomar (IPT) and you need to see it..

Coordinates are also important because its difficult to arrive (39°37’26″N   8°9’24″W). One suggestion is switch off “avoid unpaved roads” option or you will have some surprises!

After read this, take a time and go there. This place is unique and you will really enjoy it!

Olá a todos,

Hoje decidi dar a conhecer um dos meus locais de eleição deste verão. Confesso que quando era mais pequeno, cheguei a ir algumas vezes ao Penedo Furado com os meus pais, visto que tenho casa na zona de Abrantes, mas não me recordava muito bem e, lá está, decidi voltar. E ainda bem que o fiz!

O Penedo Furado é uma cascata portuguesa de origem fluvial que se localiza no aldeia de Milreu, Vila de Rei, na área geográfica de Castelo Branco. Saindo na EN2 e seguindo até à aldeia de Milreu, depois existem placas com a indicação de Penedo Furado. Esta cascata é de origem fluvial, e trata-se de uma área plana de rio dotada de praia fluvial que termina num trecho calmo do rio que dá origem a uma piscina natural, com algumas cascatas e miradouros. O nome Penedo Furado deriva do maciço rochoso, característico da região e da consequente passagem de água pela mesma! O local possui condições excelentes para actividades ao ar livre ou simplesmente para passar um dia calmo a relaxar.

Não é fácil encontrar informação sobre o local e, acho que é por isso mesmo que esse se mantêm fantástico e há que o preservar tal e qual como ele se encontra! Ficam algumas fotos que tirei no local:

Existe também uma empresa que explora o local e organiza passeios pedestres, rappel e escalada natural (Alfa Aventura). Existem algumas infra-estruturas no local como um  café, mesas para fazer piqueniques, grelhadores, balneários e wc. Aqui é também possível a prática de campismo selvagem

Após alguma pesquisa encontrei um filme realizado pelos alunos da Licenciatura em Vídeo e Cinema Documental, da Escola Superior de Tecnologia de Abrantes (ESTA) , pertencente ao Instituto Politécnico de Tomar (IPT) e que merece ser visto.

Ficam também as coordenadas do local (39°37’26″N   8°9’24″W), pois o GPS que experimentei não identifica o local. Não se esqueçam de colocar nas opções o “evitar estradas sem pavimento”, ou irão ter algumas surpresas.

Agora aproveitem e visitem o local, vão ver que como este local existem muito poucos neste país.
